Why most of the leading corporations are from US & specifically have their roots in Stanford ?

this is one of questions which has intrigued me for quite some time ...
right from MS,HP, Cisco & more recently Google ... all have their roots in the salubrious environs of Stanford.
Actually Stanford provides all the necessary funding for the new products / technology. This started way back in 60s & 70s with HP.
I just hope the best of Indian Univs are reading this ...
